The Irish Security Industry Association (ISIA) hosted the ISIA Awards on Saturday 23rd November at the Powerscourt Hotel. The awards were attended by over 250 individuals from the private security industry and senior management from a variety of industries. Also in attendance were members of the Private Security Authority and An Garda Síochána.
As pointed out by ISIA President, Sheenagh McCullagh “The ISIA Awards gives us an opportunity to celebrate our industry leaders and their people”. McCullagh thanked all those members “who came to the event to celebrate their employees success” and she paid tribute to all those who submitted nominations this year. “It is evidence of ISIA member’s dedication to excellence, that they take the time to consider those individuals and teams that help make their company a leader in the security industry”. There were nine awards presented on the night.

The Premier Award
The Premier Award, sponsored by Noonan, was presented to Co-operation Ireland; Ireland’s largest cross border charity. Co-operation Ireland creates opportunities for groups from the two main religious communities in Northern Ireland and from both sides of the border. Their work breaks down sectarianism and encourages integration of communities across the island of Ireland. The work of co-operation Ireland is truly in the spirit of the ISIA Premier Award, Paul Lynch Memorial Trophy which is presented each year to an individual or group whose work has contributed to improving the safety and security of the people of Ireland. The award was accepted on behalf of Co-operation Ireland by their Chief Executive, Peter Sheridan
The Courage Award
This year’s Courage Award was presented in honour and remembrance of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe and was sponsored by G4S. Derek Deloughrey, brother in law to the late Donohoe accepted the award on behalf of his family. “It reminds people of the courage displayed by members of An Garda Síochána and the risks that they face each day when working to keep all of us in the industry and in society safe” stressed Niall Feely, Vice President, ISIA.
Security Officer of the Year
The award for Security Officer of the Year was presented to Soban Anwar, Synergy Security Solutions and was sponsored by Amtrust International and Robertson Low, the main sponsor of the ISIA Awards 2013. Anwar was presented this award for the exceptional service and outstanding contribution he makes as a retail security officer at Boots Ireland. There were also three merit award recipients on the night; Marco Bodae, Brinks; Sean O’Connor, Synergy Security Solutions and Mark White, Synergy Security Solutions.
Security Supervisor of the Year
The award for Security Supervisor of the Year was presented to Tom Timmins, Brinks Ireland, for the outstanding work he does at Intel, where he is responsible for supervising a team of thirty-five officers and four team leaders. There were two merit award recipients on the night; Garry Dawson, Synergy Security Solutions and Paul Murphy, Sodexo. This award was also sponsored by the main sponsor Amtrust International and Robertson Low.
Event Security Person of the Year
The winner of the Event Security Person of the Year award was John Clare, Brinks Ireland, who was specifically nominated for the work he carries out Croke Park. There were also two merit award recipients on the night; Sue Campbell, Renaissance Security Services and Conor McGuirk,Pulse Security Management. This award was sponsored by Hytera and RSP.
Electronic Security Technician of the Year
A new category this year, the award for Electronic Security Technician of the Year was sponsored by Amtrust International and Robertson Low and was presented to Chris Barbour of TDS who works with a number of key TDS clients and is the lead technician with Dublin Airport Authority. There were three merit award recipients on the night; Luckasz Belka of Stanley Security, Colin Black from Brinks and Shea Stamp, also from Stanley Security.
Electronic Security Supervisor of the Year
Another new category this year, the award for Electronic Security Supervisor of the Year was sponsored by NSI and was presented to John O’Connell of Stanley Security who is responsible for their service and maintenance engineers across Munster. There were three merit award recipients on the night; Noel Browne of Noonan, Stephen Cassidy of G4S, and Philip Hennessy of Jade.
Innovation in Security
There were four finalists selected for this award; MTS Security in partnership with Everseen, Stanley Security Sales Department, Stanley Security Quality Department and TDS. The award for Innovation in Security was developed to foster and encourage innovation in the security industry. The award was sponsored by Anixter and Milestone and the winner was Stanley Security. “The submission was based on a piece of work they completed for a customer in the pharmaceutical industry and was a true example of innovation in practice”, stated Sarah O’Donnell, Communications Director ISIA. “It was clear from the selection process that innovation is part of the culture in Stanley and this submission was evidence of that”.
ISIA Locksmith of the Year
A customer’s choice award, introduced for the first time this year, clients of ISIA members were invited to complete a survey and provide feedback on their locksmith of choice. Survey respondents were asked to rate their locksmith in terms of criteria such as customer service, quality of work and technical knowledge. There were three finalists; Crothers Security, D15 Locksmiths and J. Williams. The overall winner of this year’s ISIA Locksmith of the Year award was Crothers Security.
