CCTV Contractors to be licensed in 2010

The Private Security Authority (the Authority) invites submissions from interested parties on its draft "Requirements for CCTV Installation" (PSA 2006_12). This draft document can be accessed by clicking here. The Authority intends to commence licensing of this area in the latter half of 2010 whereupon those contractors who are installing CCTV systems for security purposes will be required to attain certification of compliance with this specification document as well as Standard Recommendation 40:2005 (SR 40:2005).

It is intended that compliance with this document, as well as SR40:2005, will form the basis for eligibility for a PSA CCTV Installer's licence. When a complete EN standard covering CCTV installation (prEN50132) is fully incorporated into the national portfolio of standards, the PSA will give consideration to adopting that standard as the basis for licensing of all CCTV installers.

Following the initial consultation period in November 2008 and having consulted appropriately following that, the requirements document was amended to reflect some of the suggestions submitted. This current period of public consultation is the latest and last opportunity for persons to offer opinions in relation to the content of the draft specification before the PSA licensing process begins.
