The Board of the Private Security Authority (PSA) has approved the event security standard for contractors. Licensing of this sector of the private security industry will commence on the 1st November 2014. Event Security contractors must now meet the requirements of PSA 39-2014 and must submit an application for a PSA License to operate as a contractor of event security services. From the 1st November 2014 it will be illegal to operate in the sector without a license or to procure services from a contractor who does not hold a license.
The Irish Security Industry Association (ISIA) worked very closely with the PSA during the development of the standard for licensing. The PSA thanked the members of the ISIA for their contribution to this process. Speaking on the introduction of licensing this year, ISIA Event Security Division Chairman, Michael McQuillan, said 'Our members will be thrilled to hear that licensing of this sector will be introduced this year. After years of lobbying for this, we are delighted to see a standard that will truly manage risk and protect the public who attend events each year across this country'.
