The members of the Irish Security Industry Association (ISIA) find it unacceptable and immoral that the High Court has blocked the Minister of State for Employment, Damien English, from introducing pay increases to 16,000 workers in the security industry today Monday 29th August due to a high court challenge taken by three companies. This is the second injunction to halt the ratification of the ERO within the past 18 months.
The men and women of the security industry work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to protect our nation’s businesses, public services, and assets. Our security officers were due an 8% increase which would have been the first increase in three years. This situation is made even worse as we face a cost-of-living crisis fuelled by inflation.
The member companies of the ISIA wish to express their full support for the implementation of the security ERO which would guarantee better pay, terms, and conditions to the people working in the security industry. Our members are calling on the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste to take all necessary action to ensure the swiftest implementation of the security ERO and to protect the Joint Labour Committee as the mechanism for delivering better pay, terms, and conditions
The Joint Labour Committee has been instrumental in delivering equitable pay for the attraction and retention of security officers and ensuring harmonious industrial relations within the sector.
